Once implemented, a project faces a major risk of failure if it is not monitored carefully. Efficient and continuous monitoring is critical for early detection of problems or deviations. If these issues are detected early, projects can implement corrective actions to minimize shortfalls in the generation of carbon credits.

There are many mishaps that can lead to a shortfall in carbon credits, including: incorrect implementation of the PDD monitoring plan, loss of data, non-traceability of data, miscalibration of measurement equipment, etc.
